OSCAR IRONY

The most clever and ironic nomination announced today for the 81st Annual Academy Awards (which can be accessed at www.oscars.org) is the inclusion for Robert Downey, Jr. in TROPIC THUNDER for Best Performance by an Actor in a Supporting Role.

Given the fact that Downey's character in that film is a send up of the "awards" seeking actor, that he has a scene of telling Ben Stiller how to get nominated, and the stunt of his Australian character having himself physically altered to be an African American is a ploy for awards consideration ( and a send up of method acting), his nomination is a fitting one indeed.
