My friend who writes the RUPERT PUPKIN SPEAKS blog, recently posted a movie list based on an idea he saw on another blog - which kind of resembles our previous GEOGRAPHIC MOVIES lists.

Here we have a trip across the greatest country in the world -The United States of America - with 50 movies for 50 states (and the Disctrict of Columbia thrown in the mix as well).

Given that The United States boasts the most popular motion picture industry in all the world (India's may be bigger, but let's face it - Hollywood is everywhere) a list like this only makes sense.

Not so easy though. While states like California and New York had hundreds of options to choose from, not so much from places like Delaware, North Dakota or Vermont.

So here it is...a motion picture trip across the greatest country in the world. U-S-A!!!!

ALABAMA - Forrest Gump (1994)

ALASKA - Insomnia (2002)

ARIZONA - Psycho (1960)

ARKANSAS - Sling Blade (1996)

CALIFORNIA - The Player (1992)

Given that Hollywood and Los Angeles are in California, only figures that it is also the most popular setting for motion pictures.

COLORADO - Red Dawn (1984)

CONNECTICUT - The Ice Storm (1997)

WASHINGTON, D.C. - All The President's Men (1976)

DELAWARE - Fight Club (1999)

Yes Wilmington Delaware looks strangely like Los Angeles, but the intended setting is definitely in the least movie set state of the union - Delaware. I mean come on, even WAYNE'S WORLD made fun of Delaware.

FLORIDA - The Palm Beach Story (1942)

GEORGIA - Gone With the Wind (1939)

The Yankees burn down Atlanta. Decades later, the Yankees beat the Braves.

HAWAII - From Here to Eternity (1953)

IDAHO - Napoleon Dynamite (2004)

ILLINOIS - The Blues Brothers (1980)

They were on a mission from God.

INDIANA - Hoosiers (1986)

IOWA - Field of Dreams (1989)

If you film it, they will watch.

KANSAS - The Wizard of Oz (1939)

Yes the most famous line may be that they are not IN Kansas anymore....but she's dreaming, so technically she's sleeping soundly in Kansas the entire movie...or is she?

KENTUCKY - Goldfinger (1964)

Operation Grand Slam = rob Fort Knox.

LOUISIANA - King Creole (1958)

The King of Rock and Roll goes to New Orleans.

MAINE - The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

Get busy living, or get busy Maine.

MARYLAND - Diner (1982)

Barry Levinson loves his hometown of Baltimore.

MASSACHUSETTS - The Verdict (1982)

Sidney Lumet - R.I.P.

MICHIGAN - Robocop (1987)

MINNESOTA - Juno (2007)

MISSISSIPPI - Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958)

Elizabeth Taylor - R.I.P. Hey notice both my recent R.I.P. tributes also feature the also deceased Paul Newman? Creepy.

MISSOURI - Meet Me in St. Louis (1944)

MONTANA - A River Runs Through It (1992)

NEBRASKA - Election (1999)

NEVADA - Ocean's Eleven (2001)

NEW HAMPSHIRE - Lolita (1962)

NEW JERSEY - Atlantic City (1980)

NEW MEXICO - Ace in the Hole (1951)

NEW YORK - Ghostbusters (1984)

NORTH CAROLINA - Cape Fear (1962)

NORTH DAKOTA - Leprechaun (1993)

Yeah North Dakota...not so easy.

OHIO - Heathers (1988)

OKLAHOMA - True Grit (1969)

OREGON - The Goonies (1985)

PENNSYLVANIA - Witness (1985)

RHODE ISLAND - High Society (1956)

SOUTH CAROLINA - Glory (1989)

SOUTH DAKOTA - North By Northwest (1959)

TENNESSEE - Nashville (1976)

TEXAS - A Perfect World (1993)

UTAH - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989)

It's where Indy gets his fedora.
