Salted Caramel Apple Cider Baked Donuts
Ingredients:
- 1 cup apple cider
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup salted caramel sauce
- For the topping:
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp salted caramel sauce
- Sea salt flakes, for garnish
Instructions:
Grease a donut pan and preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit 175 degrees Celsius
Reduce the apple cider to 1/4 cup by simmering it in a saucepan over medium heat
Give it time to cool
Mix the flour, sugar, baking soda, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and cloves in a big bowl
Melted butter, eggs, buttermilk, vanilla extract, reduced apple cider, and half a cup of salted caramel sauce should all be combined in a separate bowl
Mixing until just combined, pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients
Pour the batter into each donut hole, about two thirds full, using a spoon
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the donuts comes out clean and the donuts are lightly golden
After a few minutes of cooling in the pan, move the donuts to a wire rack to finish cooling
Combine the two tablespoons of salted caramel sauce and powdered sugar in a small bowl and whisk until smooth
Reposition the donuts on the wire rack after dipping each one in the caramel glaze and letting any excess drip off
While the glaze is still wet, top each donut with a small pinch of sea salt flakes
Before serving, let the glaze set for about fifteen minutes
